Short bio

Mattia Malfatti was born in Tione di Trento, Italy, in 1977. He graduated in Telecommunication Engineering at the Politecnico of Milan, Italy, and joined the Bruno Kessler Foundation (formerly ITC-irst) of Trento, Italy, in 2003. From April 2003 to March 2014, he has been with the Smart Optical Sensors and Interfaces group, now IRIS, doing research activities on custom CMOS interfaces for biochemical sensors and image sensor, electro-optical devices characterization, integrated system design and development for different application fields: automotive, Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), safety, environmental monitoring, food control, etc. Since 2006 is involved in different international project under different EU-funded R&D programmes (FP5, FP6, FP7 and H2020), doing  research and management activities, setting-up internal laboratories and facilities and participating at knowledge and technology transfer actions at regional and national level.

In ARES his main contribution is devoted to management activities, supporting - as WP leader - the dissemination and exploitation of the research progress carried on in different European Project. Recently holds the role of Exploitation Manager in the EDEN project. He is also involved in research activities focused on the design and development of new control systems for innovative renewable energy solutions and collaborates at industrial and territorial levels in order to transfer them to the market.

Since February 2017 he is member of the ETIP Smart Networks for Energy Transition (SNET) in the WG5-Innovation implementation in the business environmentEuropean Technology & Innovation Platforms (ETIPs) have been created by the European Commission in the framework of the new Integrated Roadmap Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) by bringing together a multitude of stakeholders and experts from the energy sector.

Since May 2014 he is accredited as Knowledge Manager, focusing his management activities on the achievement of organizational objectives, performance improvement, competitive advantage, innovation, communication, knowledge integration and continuous improvement of  organizational models.

Since 2003 he has been working in the field of safety and security, collaborating in setting up and managing various research laboratories and in consulting activities for development of innovative products. Accredited HSO-Occupational Health and Safety Officer (2009),  Health and Safety Trainer (2013) and Worker Health and Safety Representative (2015).
