CIVIS’s aim is to contribute to the design of a fairer, more sustainable, energy-optimised smart city. The project focuses on the ICT-enabled social dimension to harness the potential of innovation of individuals and collectives with respect to energy prosumption. CIVIS will link energy, ICT and society to achieve significant impacts in terms of CO2 reduction and new forms of social innovation.

The project consortium consists of 12 European partners representing 7 European countries, by applying technologies and solutions developed in two completely different contexts: in the urban environment in Stockholm (Sweden) and in rural areas in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Italy), in the small communities of Storo and San Lorenzo in Banale.

Goals:

CIVIS will implement a distributed ICT system to:

  • Manage communities’ energy needs
  • Negotiate individual and collective energy services agreements and contacts
  • Raise awareness about the environmental impacts of collective energy use
  • Allocate energy production resources more efficiently
