HYCELTEC 2015 - V Iberian Symposium on Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Advanced Batteries
This seminar organized by ARES research unit will present the first renewable energy hybrid system as a leading example demonstrating the use of hydrogen as a clean energy source.
Luigi Crema, head of ARES research unit, has been invited from the Italian Embassy in Seoul to attend a bilateral Symposium on "Hydrogen and Fuel Cells - Current issues and perspectives" between Italian and Korean experts to discuss future way of collaboration in this important topics.
Storing hydrogen in materials is based on the observation that metals can reversibly absorb hydrogen, however practical application of such a finding is found to be rather challenging especially for vehicular applications. The ideal material should reversibly store a significant amount of hydrogen under moderate conditions of pressures and temperatures. To date, such a material does not exist, and the high expectations of achieving the scientific discovery of a suitable material simultaneously with engineering innovations are out of reach.

ARES will be at the italian Energy Summit entitled "Europa Domani - Quale Energia per il futuro?" with an invited presentation about the research activity carried on in FBK in the energy domain, and in particular on distributed energy systems.
Hydrogen technologies regards the production and use of hydrogen for different applications. In the energy domain, hydrogen is an ideal energy storage medium that could have an important role in preventing climate changed. In fact, some innovative hydrogen technologies are carbon neutral and could drive a possible future hydrogen economy, supporting the environment, the climate and the transition to a sustainable society.
CH2P aims at building a transition technology for early infrastructure deployment, developing a new technology for the future network of HRS, using widely available carbon-lean natural gas (NG) or bio-methane to produce hydrogen and power through Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) technology. Luigi Crema, Head of the ARES, is the project coordinator.
Michal Otyepka will illustrate the advances in the field of graphene functionalization.

Luigi Crema, FBK researcher and Head of the ARES (Applied Research on Energy Systems) Research Unit was elected to the Coordination Board of “N.ERGHY”, an European organization based in Brussels, that has the task of promoting, supporting and speeding up research and development on fuel cells and hydrogen.

With the Graphene Flagship, Europe has launched a new form of joint, coordinated research initiatives of unprecedented scale. The Graphene Flagship brings together an academic-industrial consortium aiming at a breakthrough for technological innovation. The research effort will cover the entire value chain, from materials production to components and system integration, and targets a number of specific goals that exploit the unique properties of graphene.
EDEN Project aims at developing a new storage material with high hydrogen storage capacity, able to be managed in real-time for distributed level applications, included on a specifically designed storage tank and interlinked to an energy provision system able to match intermittent energy sources with local energy demand - e.g. for buildings and small dwellings.

The Hydrogen Solid State Storage (Hy3S) Laboratory is equipped to carry on validation and characterization of innovative catalyzed materials for hydrogen storage application.
